Meet Ashley Blaine Featherson, one half of the dynamic duo behind YouTube’s hottest new show, Hello Cupid. The Maryland native and Howard University graduate has been acting since the age of four. Now living in L.A., Ashley is making her mark on television and the web. The natural beauty recently took the time to chat with Nappy Headed Black Girl about her breakout show and to offer advice to fellow naturals.
Do you have any particular products that you swear by?
With natural hair, less is more. I buy different essential oils and mix them together. I have a combination of olive oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, and a little bit of shea butter. I got some of them at a beauty supply store, and I got some of them at Target. I just bought my applicator, poured it all in there, mixed it up, and that was it. Those are all the oils I like to moisturize my scalp with. It smells good and my hair is soft.
Tell us a bit about your show, Hello Cupid.
It’s a show about online dating and friendship. It’s about finding love, being true to yourself and who you are. We delve a little into colorism, but that’s not the main topic of the show. It’s so many different things.
I wanted it to be a cause for conversation. I wanted it to be a show where people called someone and said, “Hey, have you seen this show? What did you think about when that happened? What do you think she should do?”
Do you have any words of encouragement for new naturals or those on the brink of doing the big chop?
Be proud and be comfortable with your natural hair, whatever that may be. You really have to walk with pride and understand that this is your natural crown and it’s beautiful, and no one can take that away from you.
